چکیده

Aim: We aimed to investigate correlation between the effects of age, sex, disease, pathologic diagnosis, parathyroid autotransplantation, presence in pathology specimen and clinicopathological variables thyroid volume, postoperative hypocalcemia after bilateral total thyroidectomy.
Material Method: A retrospective study planned tertiary university hospital on patients undergone thyroidectomy neck dissection when necessary surgery for pathologies. Minimum calcium values period were recorded as transient or permanent hypocalcemia. The cases statistically analyzed relationship volume gland removed pathological preoperative hyperthyroidism, anatomical retrosternal extension, number glands seen preserved intraoperatively, autoimplantation, removal specimen, nerve monitoring, central lateral hypocalcemia.
Results: Totally 763 included study. mean age was 50.6 years (SD:12.8) sex 575 (75.4%) female. Hypocalcemia more common women than men (31% vs 17%; p

Objective. To evaluate the incidence of accidental parathyroidectomy in our series of total thyroidectomies, to investigate its clinical and biochemical consequences, and to identify potential risk factors. Methods. Patients who underwent total thyroidectomy between January 2006 and December 2015 were retrospectively analyzed. Pathology reports were reviewed to identify those cases who had an i...

Risk factors for incidental parathyroidectomy during thyroidectomy.

UNLABELLED Incidental parathyroidectomy is a common event in thyroid surgery. The literature shows a finding of parathyroid glands ranging from 6.4% to 31% in pathological specimens of the thyroid gland. OBJECTIVE To collect the amount of parathyroid glands found in surgical specimens of thyroidectomy and correlate with the histopathological and demographic variables. METHODS Retrospective ...

Critical Points Regarding Hypocalcemia after Total Thyroidectomy.

I read with interest the article “Comparison of Intraoperative versus Postoperative Parathyroid Hormone Levels to Predict Hypocalcemia Earlier after Total Thyroidectomy,” by Lee et al, published online in Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery. The authors analyzed the differences in the mean parathyroid hormone levels for normocalcemic and hypocalcemic total thyroidectomy patients who were teste...
